“Our goal is to realize ‘Big Firm Quality, Small Firm Care’—combining the professionalism of a large law firm with the meticulousness of a small firm. To achieve this, we hold a weekly briefing based on three principles: ① Client First ② Deep Dive ③ Care & Communication,” explained May H. Kim (45, Attorney at Law, 3rd Bar Exam), the managing partner of Suhn Law Group.
Suhn Law Group holds a weekly briefing every Tuesday, which all partner attorneys must attend. During the briefing, the status of ongoing cases for the week is transparently shared on a large screen, and the teams responsible for each case discuss litigation strategies. This process focuses on maintaining consistent quality in case handling while enhancing the overall performance of the firm.
Kim emphasized, “The weekly briefing plays a major role not only in case management but also in strengthening the bond among our attorneys and reinforcing the spirit of ‘One Team, One Firm.’”
Founded in September last year, Suhn Law Group is a newly established law firm whose three managing partners are all Yonsei University Law School alumni and passed the 3rd Bar Exam together. Each partner has over 10 years of experience at major domestic law firms like Kim & Chang and Yulchon, as well as in large corporations such as LG Group, Coupang, and Johnson & Johnson.
Kim stated, “We established the firm to fill the gap in high-quality legal services in the market. Our ambition is to provide corporate-level legal services to individuals, small business owners, and SMEs who have not had access to premium legal services before.”
Living up to its name as a full-service law firm, Suhn’s attorneys collaborate across diverse legal fields to create synergy. A notable example is the cooperation between Kim, who specializes in personal data law, and LEE, Hye lin (3rd Bar Exam), a KAIST graduate with expertise in intellectual property, on a startup’s public MyData application case. The company was developing a service to simplify online ticketing procedures, where the use of public MyData was a crucial factor for business success. Kim remarked, “Suhn strives to provide total care, leveraging not only each member’s specialist expertise but also their broad perspective and experience as generalists.”
Suhn offers robust support for startups and SMEs, including discounts exceeding 50%. LEE explained, “We provide legal advice covering the entire process from company establishment to service planning, development, and marketing.”
Suhn Law Group’s goal for 2025 is to elevate B2C legal services to B2B levels. BAK, Sung uk (39, 3rd Bar Exam), a managing partner, said, “Lawyers should go beyond merely solving legal problems and offer true comfort and help for everyday recovery to clients. We want to become a firm that heals clients’ emotional wounds and contributes to resolving social conflicts.”
LEE added, “Suhn is like a health screening center. Just as timely health check-ups can prevent major surgery, our role is to help clients identify and prepare for legal risks in advance.”
Finally, May H. Kim stated, “We founded Suhn Law Group to avoid what is disparagingly called ‘lawyering.’ We insist on ‘conscientious lawyering’ because, based on over a decade of experience, we have learned that it is not only the right thing to do but also builds long-term trust, which ultimately benefits us as well.”
